why $18?
At Jewmanity, we’re bringing you the freshest, most delicious challah—baked with love and steeped in meaningful tradition by Jewmanity’s cofounder, Belinda Donner.
Our challah is offered by donation, with a suggested contribution of $18 per loaf, and here’s why that number is extra special.
In Hebrew, the word chai (חַי) means "life," and the numerical value of chai adds up to 18. That’s right—each challah not only offers the gift of flavor, but it’s also a symbol of life, blessings, and good fortune!
You’re not just getting a treat for your taste buds, but also embracing a tradition that celebrates life itself.
Whether for Shabbat, a special occasion, or just because, our challah is here to bring meaning to your table.
Order yours today and add a little extra life to your day!
*all donations directly support Jewmanity’s ongoing programming.

Tips + Tricks
-
Room Temperature: Keep challah in a sealed bag or container for up to 2 days.
Prevent Drying Out: Wrap it in foil or a bread bag to maintain freshness.
Reviving Stale Challah: Sprinkle with a little water and warm it in the oven for a few minutes to bring it back to life.
-
Oven Method (Best for Freshness):
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Wrap the challah in foil to prevent drying out.
Heat for 10-15 minutes or until warmed through.
For a crispier crust, open the foil for the last few minutes.
Toaster Oven: Ideal for slices or smaller portions. Toast for a few minutes until warm and golden
Microwave (Not Recommended): While quick, microwaving may make the challah chewy instead of fluffy. -
Whole Loaf:
Wrap tightly in plastic wrap, then cover with aluminum foil or place in a freezer bag to prevent freezer burn.
Label with the date — challah stays fresh for up to 3 months.
Sliced Challah:
Slice before freezing for easy portioning. Place parchment paper between slices to prevent sticking.
Defrosting:
Let the challah thaw at room temperature for a few hours or overnight.
Reheat using the oven method for best results.
💡 Tip: If you’re serving it for Shabbat or a special meal, you can freeze it ahead of time and reheat it just before serving. It will taste like it’s fresh from the oven!

Many enjoy starting Shabbat by pulling off a small piece of challah, dipping it in salt, and offering a blessing. It’s a simple, beautiful way to mark the moment.
