Challah grilled cheese
(Serves 2)
Ingredients:
4 slices of challah (1-inch thick)
4 oz sharp cheddar cheese, shredded (or your favorite cheese)
2 oz gruyère or mozzarella for extra meltiness (optional)
2 tbsp butter, softened
1 tbsp olive oil (optional for extra crispiness)
Optional Add-Ons: Caramelized onions, sliced tomatoes, or fresh basil
Instructions:
Prepare the Bread:
Spread butter evenly on one side of each challah slice.
Assemble the Sandwich:
Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, on a clean surface.
Add a generous layer of shredded cheese on each slice.
If using add-ons, layer them on top of the cheese.
Place the remaining slices of challah on top, buttered side facing out.
Cook the Grilled Cheese:
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Add a small drizzle of olive oil for extra crispiness if desired.
Place the sandwiches in the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Adjust the heat as necessary to avoid burning.
Serve and Enjoy:
Slice in half and serve immediately. Pair with a side of tomato soup, a simple green salad, or pickles for a perfect comfort meal.
Pro Tips:
Cover the skillet with a lid while cooking to help the cheese melt faster.
Mix cheeses for extra flavor—combos like cheddar and gouda or mozzarella and parmesan work beautifully.
Add a sprinkle of garlic powder or a pinch of dried herbs to the butter for a twist.
Enjoy your rich, buttery challah grilled cheese!
